The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, along with the World Health Organization welcomes the participants and delegates of the “4th WHO Global Forum on Medical Devices “Increasing access to medical devices” to be held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India, from Thursday 13th to Saturday 15th , December 2018. The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India has been a strong proponent of World Health Organization’s initiative to convene the Global Forum on medical devices to improve access to safe, effective, innovative, accessible, affordable and appropriate medical devices.

The Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 (SDG) for health is vital for the future of our world. WHO has embarked on 13th Global Programme of Work (GPW13) for strategic direction to address both communicable diseases and the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases worldwide. Reliable access to effective, safe, quality-assured and affordable medical products is key to making progress towards Universal Health Coverage and the SDGs.

Health technologies are essential for a functioning health system. Medical devices in particular are crucial in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and disease, as well as patient rehabilitation. The 4th  WHO Global Forum on Medical Devices would be demonstration of the member states and WHO commitment to towards improved access to safe, effective, innovative, quality medical devices and diagnostics, as a contribution to Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Health Goals.

This would be an opportune time for India to host this event with the Medical Device Rules 2017 being notified as part of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act & Rules and enabling landscape created to foster research and innovation under the ‘Make in India’ vision of the Government of India, to enable access to affordable, safe and effective diagnostics and medical devices globally. We request you to participate for all the three days in the forum and provide your valuable inputs for tangible outcomes.
